Types of Stress Balls

Stress balls are small, easily manipulated objects that can be used to reduce stress and anxiety. The user can squeeze, hold or otherwise move the ball in his hand depending on the type of stress ball that is being used. While many types of stress balls have become popular promotional items that may simply sit on recipients' desks, these balls have a very valid purpose and can be used as a handy, portable relaxation tool.
  1. Foam

    • Foam stress balls are most commonly found at job fairs, conventions and other events where various companies provide free promotional items. Foam stress balls come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and can be easily imprinted with a company's name and logo. This type of stress ball offers a good amount of resistance when squeezed and is very durable. To use a foam stress ball, you should simply squeeze and release the ball as many times as you desire to relax and release tension.

    Bean Bag

    • Bean bag stress balls are just as they sound. These stress balls are filled with small beans or tiny foam balls. The bag can be shifted around as it is squeezed, moving the contents around within the stress ball. The filler inside the ball may make a crushing or grinding sound as you use the ball. Bean bag stress balls can be squeezed and shifted in the hand to reduce stress.

    Liquid Filled

    • Liquid filled stress balls are more entertaining to look at than the other varieties. These balls are filled with a liquid or gel. Often times, the ball will be transparent, allowing you to watch the liquid move about as you squeeze the ball. Liquid stress balls of this type may also contain glitter or confetti to make them more interesting to look at. As you squeeze the ball, the water will shift and cause the ball to expand on either side, beyond the grip of your hand. While this type of stress ball is entertaining, take care not to be too rough or it may break and spill.

    Chinese Stress Balls

    • Chinese stress balls are also known as Chinese medicine balls. These balls are not soft at all and are used in a very different manner than the squeezable balls. To use Chinese stress balls, you must have at least two balls of the same size and weight. You then rotate these balls in the palm of your hand. Chinese stress balls typically contain small bells or chimes that will make gentle sounds as you move them in your hand. They are designed to not only reduce stress, but also to promote circulation and stimulate acupuncture points in your hand.
