Children's Natural Pain Reliever Fever Reducer
It is not uncommon for children and infants to experience fevers. This is the body's natural way to fight infections. Some kids are lucky and rarely get sick or rarely have a fever even if they are sick. Others may fight fever often. Prolonged high fevers can be life threatening for children; seek medical attention. For lower-grade fevers, parents may seek natural methods to control fever.-
Herbs
-
Both elderflower and yarrow can be effective in relieving fevers in children. Ginger has a warming effect on the body and may help relieve the chills commonly associated with fever. Try giving herbs to the child in tea form. Elderflower, yarrow and ginger tea are safe for children and will also aid in keeping the child hydrated. Other teas that are good for reducing fever include chamomile, red clover and rosemary. Parents can add lemon juice and honey to tea if the child is 2 years old or older, but avoid adding honey to tea if the child is younger than 2. For older children, warm honey can help soothe the throat and belly during illness.
Essential Oils
-
Many essential oils are safe for children and can be used to reduce a fever. Essential oils such as lemon, lavender, eucalyptus, thyme, pine, rosemary and sage help support a healthy immune system. Parents can administer essential oils to their children with a washcloth: Drop a few drops of the oil into cool water, dip a washcloth into the mixture and wring it out. Use the wet cloth to wipe the child's face, back and body. Dry the child and wrap him in warm, clean towels.
Eating and Drinking
-
Children often refuse to eat or drink when sick, but it's essential to their well being and to healing. Fruit juice, teas, vegetable broth and nuts will not only help the child stay hydrated, but help her to avoid constipation. The nuts will make the child more thirsty and more likely to continue drinking fluids. The child or infant should drink plenty of water. If she will not drink water straight, mix fruit juice with water (50 percent mix for each).
