The Law of Attraction extends beyond the realm of physical sciences. A group of social thinkers believes that the concepts of physics do not apply to atoms and physical structures alone, but also to human thoughts.

• Using quantum mechanics as its basis, the Law of Attraction states that thoughts, like atoms, are governed by the "like attracts like" concept of physics.

Claims of the Theory

• The Law of Attraction believes that thoughts can influence a person's life and that a person's dominant thoughts will eventually manifest themselves.

How the Law of Attraction Works

• A person's thoughts will attract the things -- people, material things and events -- focused upon by the thinker. Thoughts and emotions are believed to send vibrations out into the universe, which then subsequently attract the person's wants and needs.

Recent Gain in Popularity

• In 2006, a Law of Attraction-based film entitled The Secret garnered wide-spread media attention, with famous television hosts dedicating episodes of their programs to discuss the Law of Attraction.

Criticisms

• Critics of the Law of Attraction claims that it fails on the basis of testability; the theory is unable to prove a solid correlation between the thoughts and the results. Furthermore, unlike atoms, thoughts are not scientifically proven to have energy fields.
