Garlic & Honey Home Remedy
Honey and Garlic are basically on opposing ends of the flavor spectrum. One tastes sweet and the other tastes, well, like garlic. But when it comes to healing properties, it seems that opposites do attract. Both can be taken separately when you have a cold or the flu or they can be mixed together for the ultimate garlic and honey home remedy.-
Honey and Garlic
-
Honey will never spoil while sitting in your pantry because of its high sugar content. Fungus and bacteria cannot live in these conditions. Over the past 2,500 years or so, people have been using this substance created by bees in modern medicine and healing wounds. Besides its antibacterial and antifungal properties, honey contains antioxidants such as nutraceuticals that remove the free radicals from your body, resulting in improved immunity.
Garlic is also considered the cure for every ailment. In addition to its antibiotic and blood cleansing properties, garlic is sometimes considered a cure for acne. People with high cholesterol and cardiovascular health also turn to garlic or garlic supplements.
For colds, coughs and sore throat
-
For sneezing, runny nose and a sore throat that may be a result of a common cold, a mixture of honey and garlic can be taken to treat your symptoms. Remember, both of these have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Peel 24 garlic cloves. Buy a jar of raw honey either from a health food store or a grocery store. Put your garlic cloves in a jar and fill it to the top with honey. Let this mixture sit in a sunny place. The garlic will turn opaque and the honey will taste strong. Take a teaspoon every few hours or as necessary.
With Apple Cider Vinegar
-
Try a recipe of organic garlic, unpasteurized honey and apple cider vinegar to relieve muscle, joint aches and arthritis. This concoction is also said to relieve high blood pressure, hemorrhoids, toothaches, asthma, Alzheimer's disease, impotence, infertility and obesity. Blend one cup of apple cider vinegar with one cup of honey and eight cloves of garlic. Mix on high in a blender for 60 seconds and leave in your refrigerator for five days. Take two teaspoons in a glass with water or juice before breakfast.
Wound Dressing
-
New Zealand honey, like Manuka honey, has been used as a wound dressing for diabetic sores and staph infections that are resistant to antibiotics. For your own wound dressing with garlic and honey, wash the wound first with warm, soapy water. Apply finely chopped or mashed raw garlic to the wound. This will kill the bacteria. Cover the garlic with honey and apply a clean bandage. The honey will keep oxygen from getting to the wound, ultimately preventing bacteria from growing on it.
