How to Convert Tap Water Into Alkaline Water
Medical science has yet to substantiate any health benefits associated with drinking alkaline water or raising the pH of internal body fluids. But a variety of anecdotal evidence on the Internet and beyond continues attracting people to the concept of alkalizing. Pure water has a neutral pH of 7, but most tap water is slightly acidic. It's actually very easy to raise the pH of water, and thus make it alkaline. There are several ways this can be done, any one of which is sufficient.Things You'll Need
- Lemon or lime
- Baking Soda
- Ionizing water filter

1
Add lemon or lime. Despite the fact that citrus fruit contains citric acid, proponents of alkalizing believe that, when digested, citrus has a net alkalizing effect on the body. Thus, one of the simplest ways to make water somewhat alkalizing is to simply squeeze in fresh lemon or lime juice.

2
Add baking soda. A common way to boost the pH of water considerably is to add baking soda. Adding a half teaspoon to a gallon of water raises the pH to between 9 and 10, which is significantly alkaline. Citrus can be used to mask the flavor of the baking soda, since the addition of sugar or sweeteners will lower the pH of the water.

Use an ionizer. Manually adding common household ingredients to your tap water works, but isn't very efficient. Installing an ionizer on your tap can increase the pH of all your tap water instantly as you use it. An ionizer filters the water and introduces a slight electric charge, polarizing the dissolved elements in the water. The positively charged ions are gathered, which has an alkalizing effect on the water.
