Leek Broth Detox
Detox diets have been gaining popularity in recent years because of their ability to improve overall health. By finding the right combination of ingredients, detox dieters can re-energize themselves, get a weight loss boost, eliminate toxins from their systems, and reduce symptoms of some health conditions. While there are many detox diet recipes available, a leek broth detox diet has many benefits that the user can't get anywhere else.-
Detoxification
-
Detoxification for good nutritional health is the process of ridding the body of harmful substances. There are a variety of ways and methods to do this; most often, a mild liquid diet is used to allow the body to rid itself of wastes naturally while keeping additional toxins, fats, and sugars out of the body.
Leeks
-
Leeks are used for detoxification because they contain potassium, folic acid, and vitamin C. They also help reduce cholesterol levels and can help rid the body of uric acid, which the body creates after ingesting certain foods. Too much uric acid in the body can cause health complications such as gout and kidney stones.
Use of Leeks in Detoxification
-
Leek broth can be made with or without additional ingredients. Some basic recipes involve only the greens and bulbs of leeks with water, while other recipes include other ingredients found to have additional health benefits. Such ingredients may include onions, ginger, lemon or herbs. The ingredients generally add minimal calories to the broth and are sometimes tailored to meet the specific health needs of the user.
Once the broth is made, those detoxing often use it for two to three days. During the detoxification process, it is the only thing ingested so that users can avoid adding additional contaminants to the body. Broth can be ingested warm as a vegetable "tea" or cold.
