Lotion Bar With Glycerin Recipe
-
What You Will Need
-
To start out making a glycerin lotion bar, you will need 1 lb. of pure glycerin soap, base essential oil fragrances of your choice and coloring agents of your choice. You will need to use a double boiler or microwave because this soap is made using the melt and pour method.
Making The Lotion Bar
-
Start out by melting the glycerin in the microwave. It should be heated to around 155 degrees F. Once the base is melted, you can add and coloring you like and stir it in well. If bubbles start to appear, spray the mix with rubbing alcohol and they will disperse. You can also add the fragrances at this point. Once it's all thoroughly mixed, you can pour into molds and let them sit. After 30 minutes, pop them in the freezer for another 30 minutes. The soap is then ready to remove from the molds and use.
Which Fragrances to Use
-
Experiment with your favorite fragrances. Essential oils are all natural aromatic essences that have been extracted from plant material such as leaves, fruit or flowers using steam distillation or cold pressing. There is a large range to choose from such as sweet fragrances like orange, spearmint, rose and lavender or more spicy fragrances like sandalwood and patchouli. Fragrance oils are more complex and may contain more than a hundred aromatic chemicals. Fragrance oils may be natural or synthetic. They are comprised of undiluted aromatic chemicals. They need to be diluted before you add them to your soap mix.
Which Coloring Agents to Use
-
Choose from a range of dyes to color your soap. You can use botanical substances such as annatto (gives a yellow color) soaked in your base oil. You can also use a few drops of liquid dyes, although these do have a tendency to fade quickly. Another option is pigments such as oxides and ultramarines. Colored mica will also give your soap a sparkly effect.
