How to Juice to Prevent Stroke
Juicing to prevent stroke is a form of alternative medicine, or a nontraditional way to prevent ailments. The vitamins and other healthy components of fresh, natural juice are absorbed easily into the body. Gary Null, author of "The Joy of Juicing," argues that, "Juicing is the key to reversing the progress of disease." By juicing garlic, oranges or watermelons, which contain antioxidants that fight free-radical damage, you can fortify your diet to help prevent stroke.Things You'll Need
- Juicer
- Oranges
- Watermelon
- Garlic
- Celery
- Carrots
- Parsley
Instructions
-
Prepare for Juicing
-
1
Buy a good quality juicer either from a physical store or online.
-
2
Buy garlic, oranges and watermelons. You will make fruit juices and a vegetable juice. Buy celery, parsley and carrots to mix with the garlic.
-
3
Reach for organic produce whenever possible. Organic produce does not have the chemicals that non-organic produce contains.
Juicing the Oranges
-
4
Gather three oranges. Peel the oranges, leaving the pith. The peel of oranges should not be juiced. The pith of an orange contains vitamin C. As reported at SteadyHealth.com, "Scientists have now proven that free radicals play a major role in the aging process as well as cancer, heart disease and strokes, arthritis, cataracts, Parkinson's disease, allergies as well as many other diseases." Vitamin C contains antioxidants that attack free radicals.
-
5
Place a glass under the spout of the juicer. Push the oranges through the juicer. Drink the juice.
-
6
Wash the juicer immediately after drinking the juice. Remnants of food, particularly citrus foods, left on the juicer will ruin the juicer over time.
Juicing the Watermelon
-
7
Wash the watermelon under water. This is particularly important if you did not buy an organic watermelon. You may use a nontoxic produce cleaner if desired. Explains Barbara Levine, a registered dietitian, "Lycopene is an antioxidant that gives tomatoes, watermelon and pink grapefruit their red color. Antioxidants such as lycopene help neutralize 'free radicals' that cause DNA damage in cells--damage that may play a role in the onset of cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke."
-
8
Cut a quarter of the watermelon off. Store the remainder of the watermelon in the refrigerator. Cut the quarter of watermelon into strips.
-
9
Place a glass under the spout of the juicer. Push the strips of watermelon through the juicer. Drink the juice and then wash the juicer.
Juicing the Garlic
-
10
Gather one garlic clove. George Jacob, a holistic doctor, asserts that garlic prevents stroke by reducing blood pressure, lowering cholesterol and by serving as a anticoagulant.
Add a handful of parsley, four carrots and two stalks of celery. Rinse the parsley, carrots and celery under water. The skin of a carrot contains vitamin A. Therefore, do not peel the carrots. Remove any green leaves.
-
11
Cut each carrot into four pieces. Cut each stalk of celery into four pieces.
-
12
Place a glass under the spout of the juicer. Push the the garlic, parsley, carrots and celery through the juicer. Drink the juice. Wash the juicer.
