Health Benefits of Bee Propolis Liquid

Propolis is a natural antibiotic and has been successfully used in the treatment of mouth ulcers, skin infections, cold and flu symptoms, congestion, sunburn, acne and skin infections. It is also helpful in building up the immune system for people fighting cancer and other invasive diseases.
  1. Origins

    • Bee propolis is a wax-like resin produced by honey bees from plants and used as a caulk to seal cracks in their hives and maintain the colony's health by keeping out bacteria. The most common color is brown, but that is determined by the available vegetation.

    Properties

    • Bee propolis is high in B-complex vitamins, as well as at least four other vitamins including C, E and A. It is high in flavonoids, minerals and trace elements. It also contains amino acids, fatty acids and aromatic esters.

    Warning

    • People with a history of allergies to bee and wasp stings and/or honey should consult their health care provider before using bee propolis to avoid the danger of allergic reactions. Propolis has not been known to have any negative interactions with drugs.

    Scientific Testing

    • Scientists at the National University of Technology in Argentina have found that bee propolis is a natural preservative that inhibits the bacterial growth of E. coli.

    Reseach

    • Since liquid propolis is considered a food, it cannot be patented and thus offers no monetary incentive for pharmaceutical companies to devote to research and development of new derivatives.
