Home Remedy to Cure BV
BV, or bacterial vaginosis, is a condition that affects the natural, bacterial balance in the vagina. The vagina keeps a delicate pH and bacterial balance, and when an overgrowth of bad bacteria occurs, the vaginal balance becomes unstable and is more susceptible to infections and other illnesses. BV is usually seen in pregnant women and women with new or multiple sex partners. Common symptoms of BV include thin gray or white vaginal discharge, a fishy smell coming from the vagina and itching around the vulva area. For many women, these symptoms can negatively affect self-esteem and confidence.-
Yogurt
-
Yogurt is a well-known home remedy used to cure many vaginal problems including bacterial vaginosis. Yogurt contains Lactobacillus Acidophilus bacteria that helps regain the bacterial balance in the vagina and prevent future BV cases. Acidophilus bacteria feeds on the unhealthy sugary bacteria available in the environment and cuts down on the severe imbalance.
Include pure, unflavored yogurt into your daily diet by eating at least one serving of yogurt per day. Yogurt can also be introduced directly into the vagina to speed up BV recovery. Coat a tampon with the yogurt and insert it into your vagina. Leave the tampon in for two hours to allow the bacteria in the yogurt to take effect.
Directly inserting yogurt into the vagina is only necessary until symptoms of BV subside. Once you no longer notice symptoms, taper your treatment to simply eating yogurt. Inserting yogurt into your vagina after your symptoms have subsided can cause more bacterial imbalance and create other vaginal issues. You can continue eating yogurt to improve other bodily ailments like digestion issues and bowel movement problems.
Acidophilus Capsules
-
If you don't like how yogurt tastes or don't wish to undergo the messy procedure of directly inserting it, you can take acidophilus capsules instead. Acidophilus in capsule form has the same effect as ingesting yogurt: Bad bacteria is engulfed or eaten by the acidophilus bacteria present in the capsules. Acidophilus capsules can be found in the supplement section of your local pharmacy.
Be sure to consult with your physician prior to taking supplements to rule out other diagnoses.
