Human Parasite Removal

Parasites are defined as an organism which attaches itself or lives in another organism for sustenance without providing a benefit to the host. There are a large number of organisms that are parasitic to people. From ticks and leeches to intestinal parasites, each one requires a different method of removal.
  1. Blood-Sucking Parasites

    • The most common parasites on people are parasites that live off human blood. Common parasites include mosquitoes, ticks and leeches. Removing mosquitoes is as easy as killing them or brushing them away. Removing ticks is simple. Although there are many home remedies which suggest putting things like petroleum jelly or alcohol on the tick, the best way to remove them is with tweezers. Grasp the tick as close to the head as possible. Be careful not to squeeze the tick, or saliva and innards could be squeezed into the body. Gently pull the tick out. Be careful not to leave the head in the body.

Leeches are equally easy to remove. Find the place where the leech's sucker has attached to your skin. Gently press down on the skin to break the vacuum between the sucker and your skin and slide your finger under the leech to flick it off.

    Microscopic Intestinal Parasites

    • There are a wide range of intestinal parasites. Many are microbes which are present on unclean food. Microscopic intestinal parasites include protozoa and amoeba. These parasites often cause stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhea. Medication is needed to remove these parasites. If you have a microscopic intestinal parasite infestation, it is important to have your doctor identify the exact parasite and prescribe appropriate anti-parasitic medication.

    Worms

    • Worms are another form of intestinal parasite. Parasitic worms include round worms, hook worms and tape worms. Because worms often drink intestinal blood and cause anemia, or a lack of iron in the blood, doctors may recommend iron in addition to anti-parasitics. Each type of worm is killed by a different anti-parasitic medicine, so it is important to see a doctor for identification of the exact type of worm.
