About Kinoki Detox Foot Pads & Cellulite

Have you heard about Kinoki detox foot pads? This product, being marketed as a health-promoting, all-natural detoxification product has caused many people to wonder if it really works. Will Kinoki detox foot pads really remove toxins from the body? As many people believe that cellulite is caused by a buildup of toxins in the body, could it be concluded that Kinoki detox foot pads could help to erase unsightly cellulite?
The truth is, using Kinoki detox foot pads will not cause any improvement in the appearance of cellulite.
  1. Facts about Cellulite

    • Found significantly more in women than in men, cellulite is a dimpling of the skin caused by fat deposits that push and distort connective tissues, causing a lumpy appearance. Influences which have been shown to have an effect on whether an individual will get cellulite include: age, gender, heredity, skin thickness, and the amount of body fat present and how it is distributed in the individual. It has been determined that female hormones also play a role in contributing to the way that fat is distributed.

Cellulite is in essence, a skin problem. It does not depend on whether a person is overweight. Cellulite is comprised of fat cells that exist within the skin itself, which cannot be burned as fuel for the body. Aging is one factor that can cause fibrous bands of tissue surrounding fat cells in the skin to become hard and rigid. The fat pushing between these fibrous bands causes the appearance of cellulite.

    Speculation

    • Although there is little medical evidence to support it, many believe that cellulite is caused by toxins in the body, and in eliminating these toxins; the cause of the cellulite will disappear. Although there may be certain toxins present in skin cells, they are ultimately not the cause of cellulite. Therefore, it is unlikely that treatments used to remove toxins from the body will have any effect on the appearance of cellulite.

What are Kinoki Detox Foot Pads

    • Available for purchase in many drugstores, Kinoki detox foot pads are marketed as promoting general health and wellness by drawing toxins from the body through the feet. Adhesive pads are applied to the soles of the feet at bedtime and removed in the morning. Makers of Kinoki detox foot pads claim their product may do all of the following: boost the immune system by removing toxic chemicals from the body, assist in the natural cleansing of the lymphatic system, support normal blood circulation and improve sleep quality.

Applied to the feet at night, the pads start out clean and white. When they are removed in the morning, they are brownish-gray and smelly. The makers of Kinoki detox foot pads claim that this colored residue found on the pad the next morning, actually contains toxins that your body has released during the night through the soles of your feet.

    Effectiveness

    • Are Kinoki detox foot pads a scam? In 2008, John Stossel of ABC News acquired a team of researchers that set out to answer that question.

The television show 20/20 asked NMS Labs, a national laboratory in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, to perform toxicology testing on used Kinoki detox foot pads to determine whether the nasty discoloration found on the used pads contained any toxic chemicals.

"The lab tested for a lot of things, including heavy metals like arsenic and mercury and 23 solvents, including benzene, touline and styrene, and found none of these on the used pads," said Stossel.

Makers of Kinoki detox foot pads claim that they have conducted independent studies that support the effectiveness of their product. However, 20/20 asked the makers of Kinoki detox foot pads to provide their scientific test data, or agree to a television interview, and the makers of the product declined the request to provide either one.

    Other Options

    • Options to treat cellulite include creams and lotions, massage and light therapy treatments, drug or enzyme injections, herbal wraps, laser therapy and herbal supplementation. Many of these treatments have shown promise, however, results are only temporary. Eating a healthy diet (including drinking lots of clean water) in conjunction with exercising to maintain proper muscle tone, are more effective ways of keeping the body looking taut and smooth.
