What Is a Physical Therapist?

Physical therapists help people manage pain and recover or maintain their mobility following an injury or surgery. They work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, and sports facilities.

Here are some of the things physical therapists do:

- Evaluate patients to determine the source of their pain or mobility problems

- Develop and implement treatment plans, which may include exercises, massage, and electrical stimulation

- Help patients learn to use assistive devices, such as crutches or wheelchairs

- Educate patients about their condition and how to prevent future problems

Physical therapists are licensed healthcare professionals who have a master's degree in physical therapy. They must also complete a national exam in order to practice.
