Who developed the concept of occupational therapy?

The concept of occupational therapy was first developed by Dr. William Rush Dunton Jr., a psychiatrist, in the early 20th century. He believed that engaging in purposeful activities and occupations could have a therapeutic effect on people with mental illness. This led to the development of occupational therapy as a profession, with the first occupational therapy program being established in 1914 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
