Infrasound Arthritis Treatment
QiGong infrasound massagers were developed from Chinese research on natural healers. Infrasound is a frequency below 20 Hertz (Hz), which humans cannot hear. In contrast, the more familiar ultrasound has frequencies above 20,000 Hz, which humans also cannot hear. Some natural health practitioners use infrasound massagers for treatment of various disorders, including arthritis.-
Ultrasound and Infrasound
-
Ultrasound is commonly used in physical therapy for pain relief. Infrasound treatment, however, has not been accepted by conventional medical practitioners for the most part.
Inflammatory Conditions
-
Infrasound therapists state that this method is particularly beneficial for painful conditions such as arthritis, degenerative disc disease and tendinitis.
Specific Benefits
-
Infrasonic therapy units are available for purchase online, and the websites and testimonials say these units provide relaxation and pain relief, increase circulation and reduce swelling and inflammation.
Lack of Validation
-
No scientific studies have verified any claims in regard to these positive effects, and one website detailing several clinical studies lists them in anecdotal format rather than as scientific research.
FDA Letter
-
The United States Food and Drug Administration issued a warning letter to one infrasound therapy manufacturer in 2001 in regard to a lengthy list of unverified healing claims.
