Can you take suboxone and Watson 853 together?
No. Mixing the generic opioid painkiller butorphanol (Stadol) with the buprenorphine in Suboxone, (which contains buprenorphine and naloxone), can increase the risk of serious side effects, including respiratory depression, coma, or death.
Butorphanol is processed in the liver by an enzyme called CYP2D6. Other medicines, including buprenorphine, can alter how much butorphanol is metabolized by this enzyme. For instance:
- Drugs that inhibit CYP2D6 can slow down the breakdown of butorphanol and may increase the risk of side effects.
- Drugs that induce CYP2D6 can increase the breakdown of butorphanol and decrease the effectiveness of the medication.
Therefore, you should avoid taking buprenorphine and butorphanol concurrently.
