Search for a Reiki Master in your area. Search online at Reiki.org, or ask local park districts, spas and yoga centers for assistance on locating a Reiki Master or a Reiki class.

Learn the history of Reiki during the attunement process. Reiki originated in Japan as a natural way to relieve stress and improve health. Learning the history will help you understand how the process works and the success it has achieved in others.

Learn the different areas of the body that represent points on your energy field. The Reiki Master will point out each point for you to focus on, such as your head, your chest and abdomen, your back, your legs and so on.

Practice the specific hand positions that the Reiki Master teaches you, which include placing your palms open and face downward over the head, the front of the body and the back of the body. Sometimes you will touch these areas with your hand, and other times, you will place the palms directly over the area, hovering in the air.

Practice on yourself. To prepare, wash your hands, turn on some soft music and remain as silent as possible during the process. Sit up straight in a chair in order to reach the front and back of your body.

Complete each of the 12 hand position for at least five minutes or until your hands become warm and tingly, and you know it is time to move on. After each hand position, push the air away with your hands, to remove the bad energy from the area.

Wash your hands in cold water afterward, to remove the bad energy from your hands.
