What Is a Reiki Grandmaster?

Usui reiki teaches four levels of training, from self-healing to teaching others. With each level comes expanded capacity to channel the universal healing energy. Reiki grand master level is a master/teacher attuned to additional symbols and enhanced energy.
  1. History

    • According to PaRama, the three grand masters of reiki in modern times were: Dr. Mikao Usui, Dr. Chujiro Hayashi and Mrs. Haway Takata. Dr. Usui is known to have rediscovered reiki. Dr. Hayashi is credited as organizing the system. Mrs. Takata introduced reiki to the West.

    Significance

    • Takata was the last known grand master and she didn't formally appoint a successor. Currently, organizations such as Reiki the Healing Path and Tree of Life Reiki Center, classify Reiki Grand Master levels as levels 5 and 6 (beyond level 4, master/teacher).

    Function

    • Reiki grand masters have experience as a Reiki Master/Teacher, able to carry and pass the energy to students to channel reiki. Grand masters receive expanded energy to channel.

    Features

    • Grand masters teach reiki, attune others to the energy and channel reiki for healing, similar to a Reiki Master/Teacher. The grand master level receives one attunement to additional symbols (the Great Harmony and the Great Separation).

    Requirements

    • In order to qualify for a reiki grand master course, you must be a practicing Reiki Master/Teacher for a minimum period (Tree of Life Reiki Center requires active status for at least six months), confirmed by a copy of your Reiki Master/Teacher certificate.
