What is badmouthing?

Badmouthing or bad-mouthing, also called trash talking, talking smack or running someone's name through the mud, simply refers to the act of speaking badly about someone. Often, badmouthing entails spreading gossips, rumors or falsehoods about a particular person with the intention of reducing their esteem, reputation or standing in the eyes of the community or the public at large.
