How to Treat Black Fire Ant Bites

Fire ant bites are painful and usually come in large amounts. If you are allergic to black fire ant bites, you must go to the emergency room immediately. If not, you can treat them quickly to relieve itchiness and stop the risk of infection with creams and certain medications.

• Antibacterial soap
• Towel
• Cotton balls

  Make sure no ants are still on your body and brush off any debris. Locate where each of the black fire ant bites is and how many there are.

  Clean the bites thoroughly with a towel soaked in cold water mixed with antibacterial soap. Dab the towel on the bites and wash clean with cold water. Pat dry. Use a cotton ball to wipe the bitten areas with rubbing alcohol.

  Elevate the area if you were bitten by a large number of black fire ants. If you have bites on your whole body, remove clothing to let the bites breath while you treat them.

  Apply a hydrocortisone cream, or another substance with at least .30 percent, to each of the black fire ant bites. This helps soothe the itching and irritation and prevents infection. Rub the cream in thoroughly.

  Take two antihistamines, such as Benadryl, to help relieve itching and allergic reactions. Apply Neosporin to each of the bites and rub in thoroughly. If you still have severe itching, redness and swelling, then apply a cotton ball soaked in vinegar multiple times throughout the day.

  Keep an eye out for allergic reactions or infections. If infected, the area will become more swollen, painful and red.
