Easy Way to Get Rid of Ants

Ants can invade homes, particularly in the summer and spring months, often leaving trails and eating your food. There are numerous chemicals, baits and traps that purportedly get rid of ants, but some of these may be dangerous and take a long time to actually work. Luckily, there's an easy, natural way to get rid of ants that involves the use of mint extract. Mint contains compounds that act as neurotoxins to various insects, including ants and roaches, and the smell of it keeps them at bay.

Instructions

    • 1

Steep the mint leaves by placing them in a pot of water on medium heat as you would tea. The water should turn a tea color, which is the mint oil extract. This could take up to 15 minutes.

    • 2

Remove the heat and then remove the leaves with a utensil.

    • 3

Funnel the water in the pot, which should be infused with mint oil, into a spray bottle.

    • 4

Spray the mint extract liberally over problem areas in your home. This should be near door crevices, window crevices and anywhere you see ant trails. The mint's scent should act as a barrier, keeping ants away at points where they'd normally enter your home.
