Bed Bug Extermination Process
After World War II, DDT was the pesticide of choice to exterminate bed bug infestations, however since DDT has been found to be harmful to the environment it is no longer an option. The treatments used today are more targeted to areas where the bugs might be hiding. As a result it is important to take steps to narrow down the list of possible hiding places for the bugs before you call the exterminator.Things You'll Need
- Vacuum cleaner with extension
- Patching trawl and wall plaster

1
Wash your bedsheets and any clothing lying around your bedroom in warm water and dry using the hot air cycle in your dryer. According to the Bed Bugs Guide website, the temperature must be over 120 degrees Fahrenheit to kill the bed bugs and their eggs.

2
Vacuum your rug and floor and use the extension to suck up any dust in the corners of the room. Place the vacuum dirt bag in a garbage bag and dispose of it. Patch any cracks or holes around your walls with a patching trawl and wall plaster. Bedbugs like to hide in these small crevices.

3
Contact an exterminator. The exterminator will focus on the areas of the room where the bed bugs will likely be hiding. The exterminator will use pesticide sprays, dusts and aerosols to kill the infestation.
