What do hangnails look like?

Characteristics:

- Small pieces of skin that are torn or separated from the surrounding skin

- Usually found around the nails

- Often accompanied by redness and swelling

- May be painful or tender to touch

- May ooze or bleed

- May become infected if not properly cared for

They can vary in appearance, but generally look like small, thin flaps of skin that are hanging from the nail. The skin may be red, inflamed, and may even ooze pus or blood.
