What do you if your belly button piercing is infected?
1. Clean the piercing.- Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and water before touching your piercing.
- Use a cotton swab soaked in saline solution to gently clean the piercing and remove any crust or discharge.
- Repeat this process 2-3 times daily.
2. Apply an antiseptic cream.
- After cleaning the piercing, apply a thin layer of an antiseptic cream, such as Neosporin or Bactine.
- Be sure to avoid using any creams that contain alcohol, as this can irritate the piercing.
3. Bandage the piercing.
- Cover the piercing with a sterile bandage to help protect it from dirt and bacteria.
- Change the bandage daily.
4. Avoid touching the piercing.
- Avoid touching or playing with the piercing, as this can introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.
5. Avoid swimming.
- Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, or other bodies of water, as this can also introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.
6. Take pain relievers.
- If you are experiencing pain, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, to help relieve discomfort.
7. See a doctor.
- If your piercing does not improve within a few days, or if you experience any of the following symptoms, you should see a doctor:
* Increased pain
* Swelling
* Drainage
* Fever
* Chills
