How to Determine Killer Bees

1
Take a good look at the bee. Experienced bee keepers can distinguish a killer bee easily, but it may not be so easy for those who lack experience. Killer bees are slightly smaller than European honey bees.
-
2
Observe the bee's behavior. Killer bees are far more aggressive than other species of bee. While honey bees will stay close to their hive to defend it, killer bees will swarm out of the hive and around an attacker. If bees are approaching you, it is best to assume they are killer bees, because they are more confrontational than other honey bees.

3
Count bee stings. If you were the unlucky victim of an attack by a bee swarm, you will easily know if the bees were honey bees or killer bees by the severity of the attack. An attack by a regular species of bee will result in significantly less stings than an attack by killer bees. An attack by killer bees may result in hundreds of stings.
