What can make feces yellow?
There are a few different reasons why feces might appear yellow. Some of the most common causes include:
* Diet: Certain foods can cause feces to turn yellow, including carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and turmeric.
* Medications: Some medications, such as antibiotics and laxatives, can also cause yellow feces.
* Bile duct problems: Bile is a fluid that helps digest fats. If the bile ducts are blocked or damaged, bile can build up in the liver and cause yellow feces.
* Liver disease: Liver disease can also cause yellow feces. When the liver is damaged, it can't produce enough bile, which can lead to a buildup of bilirubin in the bloodstream and yellow feces.
* Pancreatitis: Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas produces enzymes that help digest food. When the pancreas is inflamed, it can't produce enough enzymes, which can lead to malabsorption and yellow feces.
* Celiac disease: Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small intestine. When people with celiac disease eat gluten, their immune system attacks the small intestine, which can lead to malabsorption and yellow feces.
* Giardiasis: Giardiasis is a parasitic infection that can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and yellow feces.
