What can you do if the cat eyelid is swollen?

1. Isolate the cat.

Keep the cat in a quiet, dark room to minimize stress.

2. Apply a cold compress.

Hold a cold compress (such as an ice pack wrapped in a cloth) to the swollen eyelid for 10 minutes at a time, several times a day. This will help to reduce inflammation and swelling.

3. Clean the eyelid.

Use a cotton ball or soft cloth dampened with warm water to gently clean the eyelid and remove any discharge.

4. Apply a lubricating ointment.

Apply a lubricating ointment, such as artificial tears, to the affected eye to help keep it moist and prevent further irritation.

5. Give your cat pain medication.

If your cat is in pain, you can give them over-the-counter pain medication, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Be sure to follow the dosing instructions on the medication label.

6. See your veterinarian.

If the swelling does not improve within 24 hours, or if your cat is experiencing other symptoms such as discharge from the eye, squinting, or pawing at the eye, see your veterinarian.
