1
Remove the bite or scratch victim from the cat. If the animal is not yours, contact its owner, if known or Animal Control. If possible, get proof of rabies vaccination.
-
2
Clean the wounded area, if the bite or scratch is superficial. In case the scratches or bites are deeper, apply pressure with a clean cloth to any bleeding areas. Wash with warm running water and soap for approximately five minutes. Don't scrub. Be sure to thoroughly rinse all soap, which can irritate the wound.

3
Apply antibiotic ointment to the affected area. Cover with adhesive bandages. Use butterfly bandages for deeper wounds. If acetaminophen is tolerated, it can alleviate any minor discomfort at the wound site.

4
Watch the affected area for swelling, redness, drainage. Contact your doctor if these occur. These symptoms can be signs of infection.
