How to Remove Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks can infest cats and dogs and will seek out humans if an animal host is unavailable. Fleas feed on blood and can survive on the host animal's blood or in the environment for up to two months. Ticks also feed on blood and attach to the host or lurk in tall grasses and low vegetation, waiting to latch onto a passing host.

To prevent fleas and ticks:

* Wash your pets with anti-flea and tick shampoo. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct dilution and application.

*Use flea and tick collars or sprays.

* Keep your yard free of tall grasses and weeds.

* Vacuum your home regularly, especially in areas where your pet spends time.

* Wash your pet's bedding in hot water.

* Check your pet for fleas and ticks regularly.

To remove fleas and ticks:

* Use a flea comb to remove fleas from your pet.

* Use a tick remover to remove ticks from your pet.

* Be sure to remove the entire tick, including the head.

* Clean the area with soap and water.

If your pet has a lot of fleas or ticks, you may need to take them to the vet for treatment. The vet may prescribe medication or recommend a professional pest control service.
