Can you get ringworms from sand?
They thrive on warm, moist environments and are contagious. Tinea typically spreads through direct skin-to-skin contact or indirect contact with contaminated objects or surfaces.
Ringworms can be spread through:
- Touching or sharing personal items with an infected person, such as towels, clothing or hairbrushes.
- Touching or coming in contact with infected animals.
- Walking barefoot in public areas, such as swimming pools, locker rooms or gyms.
- Touching soil contaminated with the fungus.
Here are some tips for preventing ringworms:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently, especially after coming into contact with soil or possibly infected surfaces.
- Avoid sharing personal items with others.
- Wear shoes or sandals in public areas, and avoid walking barefoot.
- Keep your skin dry and clean, especially after sweating or being exposed to moisture.
- If you have a pet, keep it clean and free of any skin infections.
- If you suspect that you or someone you know has a ringworm infection, seek medical attention promptly to prevent it from spreading.
