Can you get ringworm from being dirty?

Ringworm, also known as tinea, is a common fungal infection of the skin. It is not caused by dirt or poor hygiene, but rather by contact with an infected person or animal, or through contact with contaminated objects. Risk factors for ringworm include:

- Close contact with an infected person or animal

- Sharing personal items, such as clothing, towels, or combs

- Visiting public places, such as locker rooms or gyms

- Having a weakened immune system

Ringworm can be spread through direct contact with the infected area or through contact with items that have come into contact with the infected area. It is important to wash your hands after coming into contact with someone with ringworm and to avoid sharing personal items. Ringworm can be treated with antifungal medications.
