Fleas are a common nuisance to both humans and their pets. They are very small in size and stature, yet even the average flea can deliver a very painful bite. Treating your pet and premises for fleas is detrimental in getting rid of fleas on people.

  Treat your pet. Bathe your pet with a flea removal shampoo and place a flea collar onto your pet for added protection against fleas. Bathe your pet on a regular basis to prevent fleas from reattaching themselves to your pet.

  Clean your home of fleas. According to the University of Florida IFAS Extension, humans are often bitten by fleas when they enter infested areas. Since fleas live in and deposit eggs into carpet, sprinkle salt onto your floor to dry up and kill fleas and their eggs. Vacuum your house thoroughly. Secure the vacuum bag into a plastic bag to prevent the captured fleas from escaping and re-entering your home.

  Treat your yard. Fleas thrive in moist, shady areas outdoors. Spray the store-brand outdoor flea repellent in all cool, shady areas of your yard and in areas where your pet frequents the most. Read and follow all directions carefully before applying the repellent to ensure success.

  Wash your clothes and pets bedding thoroughly. Fleas will regularly embed themselves in your clothes and pets bedding. Hang your washed clothes and pet bedding materials outdoors to dry.
