Insect Bite Home Remedy

When flies, mosquitoes, and spiders bite people, the sting can cause pain, itching and swelling. E Medicine online lists uncomfortable symptoms such as slight fever, tenderness, and dry skin. There are several home remedies to insect bites that you can try which will keep the sting symptoms at bay.
  1. Plain Water and Relaxation

    • Cure insect bites by leaving them alone. According to E Medicine online, the symptoms of a dangerous reaction include high fever, chills, or problems breathing. If you experience these, go to the doctor right away. If not, your best bet is to do nothing.

Do not touch, scratch, blow on, press, or rub an insect bite, and it should disappear quickly. The bite may raise up, itch a little, and then begin to subside after about 20 minutes. Rinse the area with plain water, let it air dry, and distract yourself from the itch.

    Calomine Lotion

    • Use Calomine lotion on your insect bites. This is a type of lotion that most people have around the house. It is pink and thick. Spread the lotion on your insect bites and let the lotion dry so that it covers the bites. As it dries, it should harden slightly. The end result is a reduced need for itching.

Use other types of lotion if you do not have Calomine lotion. Some of the itch you experience with bug bites can be associated with dry skin. Lotions like Jergens, designed for very dry skin, can help alleviate this itch.

    Milk

    • Use milk, or dairy based lotions and soaps to calm itching caused by bites. Milk has active enzymes that calm down your nerves when you have eaten spicy foods. These same enzymes calm down the feeling of itchiness that accompanies bug bites. Spread a bit of milk across the bug bites and then let it dry.
