How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Insect Bites and Stings

When I was a child, my grandmother accidentally disturbed a bee's nest. I didn't get stung, but she did--and so did my sister. She came outside with a big jar of apple cider vinegar and I spent the afternoon helping them put it on their stings.

Since then, apple cider vinegar is the first thing I turn to when I get stung or bitten by an insect. I always make sure to have apple cider vinegar on hand, especially in the summer. Here is how you can use it as a remedy for insect bites and stings.

If you get stung, the first thing you need to do is see if the stinger is inside your skin. If it is, you'll have to follow the proper procedures for getting it out--or get help. I am not sure what the procedure is so you'll have to ask an expert or maybe take first aid training.

Remember that if you're allergic to any of these insects (bees are a common allergy) you should seek help immediately. If you have a known allergy, keep an EpiPen on hand. Vinegar isn't going to cut it.

If the stinger is out and you're not allergic, you can put apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball with a little water and dab it on the area. Keep putting more on every 30 minutes until you find relief from your symptoms.

You can also leave the cotton ball on the area and wrap gauze around it. Tape it closed. This is a handy way to relieve the sting or bite without constantly reapplying the apple cider vinegar.
