"Mozzy" is an Australian term for mosquito. There are many methods to get rid of mozzies. Adult mozzies have life cycles of four days to one month. According to the American Mosquito Control Organization, approximately 1 million people die of mosquito-related diseases every year. Some diseases carried by mozzies are malaria, dengue, yellow fever, and West Nile Virus. Spray your skin with a DEET-containing insect repellent. DEET (N-Diethyl-3-Methylbenzamide) gets rid of mozzies for two to ten hours.

Treat your clothes, shoes, and bed linens with permethrin-containing products. Permethrin is highly effective in killing or getting rid of mozzies.

Light a candle that contains oil of citronella. The vapor from the smoke gets rid of mozzies.

Place a Bug Zapper outside the door of your home. The Bug Zapper will attract mosquitoes with a black light and electrocute them.

Wipe and drain any unneeded water sources. Female mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water. Removing water sources will eliminate areas to lay eggs.

Add methoprene to external water sources. Methoprene is toxic to mosquitoes. Methoprene is safe for fish, birds, and mammals. Use only as directed.

Attach a cyfluthrin solution to a water hose. Spray areas where there are large populations of mosquitoes. Cyfluthrin is toxic to mosquitoes.
