Did they get zombies from rabies?

Zombies in popular culture are typically depicted as being reanimated corpses that are controlled by a virus or other infectious agent, not rabies. While rabies can cause aggression and altered behavior, it does not result in the kind of zombie-like symptoms seen in fiction.
