How to Get Rid of Blemishes From Mosquito Bites

If mosquito bites weren’t itchy, they’d quickly disappear without a trace. But because they are, not scratching them can seem impossible. The more you scratch, the more you itch, so the more you scratch – it’s a vicious circle. Even though your skin eventually heals, all that scratching leaves behind blemishes. Getting rid of a mosquito-bite blemish is the same as getting rid of any other kind, and, regardless of the treatment, requires time and patience.

Apply a mixture of geranium oil and neroli oil. Combine 5 drops of geranium oil, 3 drops of neroli oil and 3 tablespoons of your favorite unscented face cream, and apply to any blemishes daily. Geranium is an antiseptic that also reduces inflammation; in combination with the other ingredients, it'll keep your skin supple and help make blemishes less noticeable. And, using it in combination with witch hazel when you first get a mosquito bite will reduce swelling and combat itchiness.

Get a prescription for tretinoin. Tretinoin, commonly known as “Retin-A,” is often used to treat acne. However, this vitamin-A derivative also helps to fade brown spots and blemishes by working at the cellular level to renew skin cells. It takes time – up to three months – before you’ll see results, but this is one of the few medications on the market that has undergone rigorous scientific testing and been proven to improve skin quality.

Make an appointment for a microdermabrasion treatment. Less expensive than laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion uses a specialized tool to literally “sand” away the surface layer of the skin, removing blemishes in the process. And, unlike regular dermabrasion, which is considered a form of surgery, no anesthetic is needed and the skin recovers within 24 hours.

Use sunblock. This will keep any blemishes you have from getting darker, speeding up how quickly they disappear. Sunblock and sunscreen are different; sunblock contains ingredients that physically block the sun's rays, while sunscreens offer chemical protection that isn't as effective.
