How to Stop Chigger Bite Itch

Chiggers are members of the spider family that come out in hot months. While they can be found everywhere, chiggers are most predominant in the Southern states, as the area tends to be warmer year round. One of the most frustrating things about chiggers is they are so tiny that when they bite we usually don't notice until the constant itching begins. The bites can leave you scratching for weeks. Knowing some remedies and tips for relieving itchiness can help prepare you for summertime.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash bitten skin with some antibacterial hand soap and water once a day to keep it clean and free of bacteria. Dry it with a clean towel. Dab antibacterial first aid gel atop bites in a light layer for the first week following bites.

    • 2

Place a bandage over bitten skin to keep gel from smearing and to lock out oxygen that can add to the itchiness. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for a week to allow skin to heal, then discontinue use of antibacterial gel.

    • 3

Mix together 1/4 cup of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Apply the resulting mixture over bites when itchiness occurs and let it dry on bites and any red bumps that form. Rinse the baking soda off with cool water.

Fill your bathtub with warm water and add mentholated bubble bath. You can usually find mentholated bubble bath at drugstores in the cold and flu section. The menthol will help reduce itchiness and refresh your senses as you inhale.
