Can You Condition Hair After Using Lice Shampoo?
Head lice are small, wingless insects that feed on blood. They easily can be passed from person to person. If you have a child between the ages of 3 and 11, you are at the highest risk for exposure to head lice, according to the National Institutes of Health.-
Lice Shampoo
-
To get rid of lice, you can choose from several lice shampoos. Each contains pediculicidal chemicals that will kill the lice in your hair. Use of lice shampoo should be combined with hot-water washing of all bed linens, towel, hats, and other items that could be harboring lice.
After Treatment
-
After using a lice shampoo, you should not use regular shampoo or conditioner. You should not wash or condition your hair for one or two days after using the lice shampoo. This will give the pediculicide time to kill the lice, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Considerations
-
Do not use a rinse or conditioner before applying lice shampoo, because this could interfere with the medication penetrating and remaining in your hair long enough to work. If lice shampoo does not get rid of your lice, you should talk to your doctor before attempting to use it again.
