Symptoms of Body Lice

Body lice are also known as cooties and fly babies. They are blood-sucking wingless parasites that can live on humans or many other mammals. They can range in size from microscopic to just barely visible. They are often gray or brown. You may never see them, but you will definitely feel them.
  1. Tiny Red Dots

    • These are louse bites. They will mostly be where the seams of clothing touch the skin and around the waistband of trousers, skirts or undergarments, but they can appear all over the body.

    Interrupted Sleep

    • You may wake up any not realize why. This usually is because you're being bitten in your sleep. You may have also felt them crawl on you, which can wake you up.

    Itchiness

    • The bites from body lice are itchy. Also, when they walk, they can cause a slight tickle, which can get itchy.

    Black Dandruff

    • When scratching your head, you will notice black dandruff mixed in with the usual white dandruff. These are body lice eggs.

    Skin Rash

    • Along with the itching and tiny red dots, there will be a pinkish red rash in patches along the body. This is worse for people with sensitive skin.
