How to Get Splinters out of Your Finger

Getting a splinter may seem like an insignificant event, but the constant nagging of that tiny, sharp object under your skin is aggravating. Beyond the splinter's effect on your mood, it could lead to an infection if embedded deep enough and allowed to stay there for too long. When removing a splinter from your own finger or the finger of another person, be sure to take precautions to be safe and sanitary.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry them completely.

    • 2

Clean the site with antiseptic, such as Betadine or alcohol.

    • 3

Make a small incision at the site with a needle. The incision should be shallow, just deep enough to get the splinter to poke out of the skin. If the splinter is partially sticking out of the skin, skip this step.

    • 4

Grab the end of the splinter with tweezers and carefully pull it out.

    • 5

Check the site for remaining debris. Try and remove the entire splinter to prevent future infection. Clean the site again with soap and water.
