White lump on cheek inside mouth?

Canker sore

* Description: Small, round or oval, white lesions with a red border that can appear anywhere inside the mouth.

* Causes: Unknown, but may be triggered by stress, trauma, or certain foods.

* Treatment: Usually go away on their own within 1-2 weeks, but can be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers or mouth rinses.

Leukoplakia

* Description: White patches or plaques that can appear on the tongue, cheeks, or gums.

* Causes: Smoking, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, or ill-fitting dentures.

* Treatment: May resolve on its own with lifestyle changes, but may need to be removed if they are precancerous or causing problems.

Oral lichen planus

* Description: Lacy white patches or streaks on the tongue, cheeks, or gums.

* Causes: Autoimmune disorder that affects the skin and mucous membranes.

* Treatment: May be treated with topical steroids or mouth rinses.

Squamous cell carcinoma

* Description: White, scaly patch that can appear anywhere inside the mouth, but most commonly on the tongue or floor of the mouth.

* Causes: Tobacco use, alcohol consumption, sun exposure, or genetics.

* Treatment: Surgery is the most common treatment, but may also be treated with radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

If you have a white lump on your cheek inside your mouth that is painful, does not go away within 2 weeks, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or speaking, you should see a doctor to get it checked out.
