Can the bladder be damaged or its sphincter during a pap smear?
The bladder and its sphincter are not at risk of damage or injury during a Pap smear.
A Pap smear is a screening test for cervical cancer in which cells are collected from the cervix, which is the opening of the uterus. The cervix is located in the back of the vagina, while the bladder and its sphincter are located in front of the vagina.
During a Pap smear, the doctor inserts a speculum into the vagina and uses a small brush or spatula to collect cells from the cervix. This process does not involve contact with the bladder or its sphincter, so there is no risk of injury to these organs.
