Pain from bladder cancer is generally caused by a tumor pressing against nerve endings close to the bladder. The treatment for bladder cancer may cause pain as well.

• The most common symptom of bladder cancer is hematuria, which is the condition of blood in the urine. Other symptoms include pelvic pain and frequent urination.

• A serious complication of bladder cancer is the spread of cancer cells to other organs, such as the liver or kidneys. Early detection and treatment of bladder cancer is vital.

Types

• Three primary types of bladder cancer are adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma.

Solution

• Radiation therapy on tumors can help ease the pain associated with bladder cancer. A physician can also prescribe pain medication specifically designed for the abdominal region. A nerve block placed by a physician around the bladder nerves is another treatment.
