What Does CPC Cell Line Stand For?

Choroid plexus cancer (CPC) is a cancer of the brain that causes tumors to develop in the choroid plexus region. CPC cell lines are produced from these tumors and are cultured in laboratories for use in cancer research.

  1. Choroid Plexus Region

    • The choroid plexus (CP) region of the brain is responsible for the production of cerebrospinal fluid; it is located in the ventricular system of the brain. This region has an ample blood supply that is provided by a rich capillary bed.

    Choroid Plexus Tumors

    • Two types of CP tumors exist. CP papillomas are generally benign tumours that are not likely to spread to other parts of the brain. CP carcinomas are malignant, with a higher chance of metastasis. According to the Boston Childrens Hospital, CP tumors represent only 3 percent of pediatric brain tumours.

    CPC Cell Lines

    • CPC cell lines have been produced from CPC tumors that were artificially induced in rodents by means of a special type of virus. These CPC cell lines were then used to research choroid plexus functions and allowed researchers to draw a link between the choroid plexus and the immune system.
