Visit your health care provider prior to scheduling your mastectomy to have her determine whether you are fit for surgery. She may schedule several routine tests, including blood, urine and an electrocardiogram.

Notify your doctor of any medications you are currently taking, including herbal or alternative remedies. Some medications may interfere with your ability to undergo the surgery.

Depending on the time of your surgery, you may be required to not eat or drink for a certain amount of hours before the procedure.

Bathe with an antibacterial soap the morning of your surgery.

Sign a consent form with your doctor and anesthesiologist stating you understand the implications of the surgery. Be sure to discuss any questions you may have with them prior to signing the form.
