Zeolite Safety

Zelolite is an alternative therapy that some people believe reduces cancer risk and helps to boost the immune system. However, very little research has been done on zeolite's anti-cancer properties or its possible side effects.
  1. Zeolite

    • Zeolite comes from a volcanic mineral that's found in soil. It's sold as a finely ground powder that can be dissolved in a liquid, and ingested as a drink.

    Health Claims

    • Numerous personal claims exist to the effect that zeolite reduces the risk of cancer and helps to boost the immune system, but scientific research is not available to support such claims. A few early laboratory trials may indicate that zeolite has some anti-cancer properties, but no animal or human trials have ever been performed.

    Safety

    • While there's no scientific evidence to prove that zeolite reduces the risk of cancer, some types of zeolite are suspected to cause a type of lung cancer called mesothelioma. Zeolite is considered to be carcinogenic, although this classification is based only on research done with animals, and not humans. As a very finely ground powder, zeolite can also damage lung cells when inhaled, so care must be taken when handling it.
