Process

• Bone marrow stem cells have been used to help treat leukemia by first killing off the patient's abnormal leukocytes as well as their bone marrow with radiation and chemo, followed by injecting matching bone marrow stem cells given by a healthy donor.

• There have been several studies looking into the various uses of bone marrow stem cells in the treatment of different diseases and disorders, such as an animal study done at the University of Buffalo concerning heart failure and one done by scientists in Boston looking into how bone marrow cells can become non-marrow cells.
