Facilities That Offer Accommodations for Patients Receiving Cancer Treatments

Fighting cancer is a difficult challenge---the uphill battle of draining treatment, getting to and from care facilities and finding people who have been through the same thing can sometimes seem like too much to handle. Fortunately, hope is offered in the form of extended stay facilities where cancer patients, and sometimes families, can stay with one another and encourage each other through the rough times.

    Hope Lodge

    • Located in 28 facilities throughout the United States, Hope Lodges have been set up by the American Cancer Society to provide a place of respite and care for cancer patients and their families. Private rooms and public meeting areas are available, allowing patients to seek the privacy they sometimes crave or to mingle with other individuals who have faced similar experiences. Moreover, Hope Lodges often offer free or greatly reduced frees for temporary residents.

    Ritchie Mansion

    • Loma Linda University in California hosts apartment-like accommodations for whole families of patients suffering from cancer. Rooms include full bathrooms, kitchenettes and a bedroom for patients receiving treatment at the medical center.

    Hackerman-Patz

    • Pavilion houses for cancer sufferers and families are available at the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavilion located near the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore. This five-floor facility boasts a meditation room for patients, a library, laundry facilities, a computer lab and even an integrative medicine suite to allow patients to receive treatment on-site.

    Ronald McDonald House

    • One of the most well-known temporary housing facilities for cancer patients worldwide is the Ronald McDonald House. These facilities provide top-of-the-line care, from home-style cooked meals to children's playrooms. Special suites, on-site education, sibling support services and recreational activities are offered at different Ronald McDonald Houses all over the globe. Because the houses are funded by volunteers, patients and families are required to pay little to no money to stay.

    SCCA House

    • In September 2009, the SCCA House in Seattle opened its doors to cancer patients and their loved ones. The building was planned due to the fact that out-of-town patients and families had few places other than hotels to go for extended-stay lodging. This state-of-the-art facility provides wireless access, laundry and exercise rooms, counseling services and resource centers. Stays of up to several weeks are allowed by the facility.
