Find a cancer research project in need of computer time donations. Check the sites of cancer research projects or call cancer research facilities in your area. One such project using computer time for cancer research is Rosetta at Home.

Read through the system requirements to make sure your computer is compatible with the project. Most projects are compatible with many operating systems. Read any of the organization's policies and procedures.

Download the required software and install it. Adjust your settings to specify when to begin computing. Programs have default settings that do not generally effect the efficiency of your computer. Specify the amount of time after your system has been idle at which your computer can begin computing. Override any days of the week in when you do not want to donate computer time.

Monitor your statistics. Most projects have statistics so you can see exactly how your computer is contributing. It gives you the feeling that your donated computer time is really making a difference.
